Mrs. Horning grew up in Farmington, Utah. She graduated from Davis High School and attended Brigham Young University in Provo earning a Bachelor of Art degree in Home and Family Science with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Counseling. After living in Utah County for 12 years her husband took a job in Ogden and moved the family to Davis County. She’s experienced every type of schooling with her children: public, home school, and charter. Two of her four children have graduated college with their bachelor’s degrees and two are currently in college. Her youngest son enrolled at UMA its first year in 2014. She became an involved parent, serving on the PIC board in various capacities over the years. At the end of last year, she was hired on as staff at UMA as Major Workman’s assistant as an additional resource for UMA cadets to navigate their after-high school plans. Her son enrolled in UMA because he had a strong desire to serve in the military and attend a Service Academy. He enlisted in the National Guard in the split-ops program, turned down a Naval Academy appointment to pursue his dream of becoming a West Point cadet, and is currently attending West Point’s prep school. Mrs. Horning has a wide variety of life experience helping her own children navigate the many choices available for careers post high school and is excited to be a resource available for all UMA cadets.
