CPO Daniel Jones
Science Instructor & Air Frame Instructor
Chief Aviation Maintenance Technician Daniel J. Jones enlisted in the Coast Guard in June 1998. After a short time serving at a small boat station he was selected to attend Aviation Maintenance Technician “A” school at the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa OK. He was assigned to the HC-130H Hercules aircraft and along with his maintenance duties he qualified as a Drop Master, Loadmaster, Sensor Systems Operator and Flight Engineer. Later in his career he reached the position of Head of the Flight Examining Board as a lead Flight Engineer Examiner. Chief Jones has also served as both the T-56 engine shop supervisor and the HC-130 Metal shop supervisor. After 15 years on HC-130 aircraft he transitioned to the HC-144A where he acted as the Airframe and Powerplant Supervisor. He has served in Florida, Alaska, California and Massachusetts and has deployed throughout Central and South America.
His awards include three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, four Coast Guard Commandant’s Letter of Commendation ribbons as well as the Presidential Unit Citation with hurricane device and the Humanitarian Service Medal for his work during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well numerous other awards. He is retiring after 20 years of service the summer of 2018.
He currently holds a B.A. in Organizational Management and is working toward completing his B.A. in Education Physics. Chief Jones has also served as a Scout leader for six years as well as a youth hockey coach for nine, including six on a travel team. He has been married to his wife for 20 years and has a son attending the University of Utah and a daughter in High School.
