About NHS at UMA

We are very excited to start our own chapter of the National Honor Society at Utah Military Academy. The National Honor Society is a nationally respected organization that recognizes high school students who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Membership indicates that a student has not only excelled academically, but also works to improve the school and the community.

The Utah Military Academy chapter of the National Honor Society has been named the Haven J. Barlow Chapter, in honor of a great man who embodies the values of the National Honor Society. As a WWII veteran, graduate of USU and Harvard, long-serving member of the Utah State Senate and house of Representatives, and a successful businessman, he is an outstanding example of a person living the values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Cadet membership in NHS is by invitation. Near the end of each school year, that cadets who meet the requirements will be invited to apply for membership. To be considered, a cadet must

1) maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5

2) be going into their sophomore, junior, or senior year

3) have attended UMA for at least two quarters.
